The inheritance of corruption from the old regime in our state has been a burden to reversing all the damage it caused in our communities and making the transformation that Oaxaca deserves a reality. When we took office, we found disorder, ineptitude, and waste in the management of state finances; for this reason, the anger and desire for revenge from the majority of Oaxacans was understandable.
"These decisions were made thinking about the future, while also considering today’s needs," he explained. "These premises (combating corruption, austerity, reducing debt, and not incurring more debt) were a necessary condition to fulfill the greater mandate of our movement: to invest in the welfare and development to settle the historical debt with our communities. Order, honesty, and social commitment were the foundation that allowed us to pay what others left pending and do what had not been done."
In addition to paying off the debt, we achieved a historic investment in works and welfare programs. "Almost 10 billion pesos in the 2024 state budget that aligns and complements the welfare and development policies of the federal government, both of our former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and our president, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum."
"We had to act responsibly, thinking of the greater interest that drives us: the future of everyone," affirmed the governor. To begin the transformation, we set the goal of safeguarding the people's assets, starting by putting order in finances, reviewing each dependency to end opacity, making cuts in items whose only purpose was the luxuries and excesses of officials, stopping the growth of public debt, and avoiding the contracting of new debts.
"It should be noted that we inherited from previous governments a debt exceeding 32 billion pesos, which we have reduced thanks to fiscal discipline and a rigorous austerity policy." In two years, we demonstrated that leftist governments not only have social sensitivity but also govern with responsibility and financial discipline.
"To date, we have paid a little over 10 billion pesos to stabilize public finances and avoid the lethal consequences that such a burden entails. The other part was allocated to the construction of works in the 8 regions of the state to spark development, employment, and private investment for the benefit of Oaxacan families." The investment in 2024 represents a 160 percent increase compared to 2022, the last year of the previous administration.
"Of that amount, we invested almost 50 percent in programs for women, youths, agricultural workers, and families in poverty," concluded the governor.
